Type Locality and Naming

Liu Mingwei et al (1994) named the Jingangkou Formation in Jingangkou of Lvgezhuang Village, Laiyang of Shandong. The type section was measured by Liu Mingwei et al (1992) at the Jingangkou section of the Lvgezhuang Village, Laiyang (120º39', 36º52').

Synomyn: Wangshi Fm, which is now upper Wangshi Gr -- In 1987, this formation was referred to the Wangsi Fm by the Shandong Regional Geological Survey.


Lithology and Thickness

This formation is a group of multi-colored mudstone, siltstone and sandstone. It is intercalated with dolomitic beds. It is 105.5 m thick.

Lower contact

It has a conformably contact with the underlying Hongtuya Fm.

Regional extent

The distribution of this formation is restricted in Laiyang.

Fossils

This formation yields ostracods Talycyprides turgid, T. amoena, Cypridea gigantean, Candona sp., Candoniella caudida; sporopollen Psophophaera sp., Tricolpoites sp.
